Nigeria’s Mariam Eniola Bolaji won bronze in the women’s singles SL3 at the Paris Paralympics on Monday.

The Olympian makes history as the first African athlete to win a badminton medal at a Games—the Olympics or Paralympics.

The 18-year-old secured a podium finish three years after her coach, Bello Oyebanji, perished in a car accident when she was training for the Tokyo Paralympics.

Bolaji defeated Oksana Kozyna of Ukraine 21-9 21-9. Additionally, it marks Nigeria’s first medal at the Paris Paralympics.
