A 32-year-old man, Jake Haro, and wife, Rebecca Haro, 41, have been charged with murder following the mysterious disappearance of their seven-month-old baby, Emmanuel, in Riverside County, southern California, United States.

The county’s District Attorney’s office said on Tuesday that the couple was also charged with a lesser crime of filing a false police report, Associated Press reports.

Two weeks ago, Rebecca told police she was changing her baby’s diapers outside a store in San Bernardino county, also in California, when she was assaulted and left unconscious.

She claimed her assaulter must have snatched her baby and vanished into thin air.

However, police arrested Rebecca and her husband in their home last Friday after inaccuracies were found in her story and she refused to cooperate with investigators.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said evidence showed the alleged kidnapping incident did not occur and the baby might be dead.
