By Oluseye Ojo
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has vowed to prioritise infrastructure development in the state in order to stimulate growth and productivity. He gave the assurance in his address at the funeral and thanksgiving service for the mother of Bishop Francis Wale Oke, the late Elizabeth Areola Abeo Oke, held at James Oke Memorial Anglican Church, Kasumu Village, Ibadan.
Bishop Oke is the National President of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) and founder, Christ Life Church Worldwide, as well as the promoter of Precious Cornerstone University (PCU).
Makinde, who promised to extend road construction to various areas in the state, warned residents against selling their lands. He encouraged them to hold onto their lands, as people may soon offer large sums for them. He revealed plans to convert the moribund Erunmu Dry Port into a Container Terminal.
He also mentioned the on-going Ibadan Circular Road Project and expressed his commitment to completing the road before the end of his tenure. He noted that the road projects would lead to significant economic transformation in the region.
Makinde celebrated the life of the late Madam Elizabeth Areola Abeo Oke, describing her as a woman of character, who had a positive impact on her community. He commended her longevity, stating that her 97 years on earth were a blessing.
In his sermon, the Diocesan Bishop of Ibadan North Diocese, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Bishop Williams Aladekugbe, drew attention to the belief that death is not a tragedy but a transition to a place of everlasting peace.
Bishop Wale Oke, speaking on behalf of the family, expressed gratitude to Governor Makinde for his efforts to transform the state through infrastructural development.
“I only requested for a road to this place from the governor. But he has taken it to Kasumu village and he has also promised to extend it to Owobale, which is 2.2kilometres from here.
Meanwhile, the whole community has thought that the road would end in Kasumu village here. But His Excellency said he has approved the money for the extension of the road to Owobale,” Oke stated.
