Entrepreneur and philanthropist Bukunyi Olagbegi has formally declared his intention to contest the House of Representatives seat for Owo/Ose Federal Constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Olagbegi said his decision followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders, community leaders, youth groups and residents across the constituency.

According to him, his aspiration is driven by the need to deepen development, strengthen security and create opportunities for young people and farmers within the federal constituency.

“The work I have done over the years, whether in business or through community initiatives, has always been centred on our people. This decision is about serving this constituency in a bigger way and ensuring that we address the issues affecting our communities,” he said.

He stressed that security remains one of the biggest challenges confronting residents of Owo and Ose local government areas, noting that farmers, traders and ordinary citizens continue to grapple with fear and uncertainty.

According to Olagbegi, meaningful progress in agriculture, youth empowerment and economic development cannot be achieved without restoring safety and stability in the communities.

He pledged to support stronger collaboration between community institutions and security agencies to improve protection for residents and create an environment where people can move freely, engage in business and farm without fear.

The APC aspirant also outlined plans to expand employment opportunities for young people, improve support for farmers through better access to inputs and markets, and establish stronger engagement structures for youths across the constituency.

Many youths in the constituency have described his declaration as a reflection of a growing demand for a new generation of leaders with grassroots connection and private sector experience.

Earlier this year, Olagbegi convened the maiden edition of “Owo Praise the Lord,” a worship gathering held at the Methodist Primary School Field, Fajuyi Road, Owo, which attracted more than 7,000 participants from within and outside Ondo State.

The event featured performances by notable gospel ministers including Yinka Ayefele, Bidemi Olaoba, Funmi Aragbaiye, Adeyinka Alaseyori and Elijah Daniels, while cleric Wole Oladiyun delivered the message.

Olagbegi described the initiative as a platform aimed at reconnecting Owo indigenes at home and in the diaspora while promoting the community’s Christian and cultural heritage.

He currently serves as Patron of the City Boy Movement in Ondo State, a platform regarded as influential within grassroots political mobilisation in the APC.

Beyond politics, Olagbegi is the Chief Executive Officer of FBSS Nigeria Limited and a board member of Altheus Limited, a company with interests in energy, human capacity development and private equity.

In 2019, he was recognised by the United Nations among the 100 Most Influential People of African Descent. He has also served as Chairman of the Central Working Committee of The Future Awards Africa and SME100 Nigeria.

Political observers say his entry into the race reflects a growing trend of young professionals and entrepreneurs transitioning from community development and private sector leadership into active politics in Ondo State.
