President Bola Tinubu has expressed sadness over the death of Alhaji Hamza Darma, a prominent politician and All Progressives Congress chieftain in Kano State.
Darma died on Friday in Kano at the age of 76 after a brief illness. His funeral prayers were held on Saturday at his residence in Hororo, near Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, before his burial.
In a statement signed by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu, in a condolence message, described Darma as a personal friend, an honest and sincere politician, and a committed APC member who contributed significantly to the development of Kano State and the growth of the progressive movement and the party.
“I have known Darma to be honest and sincere since our paths crossed,” Tinubu said.
“He contributed immensely to the development of Kano State, just as he did to our progressive movement and to the APC.
“Importantly, Darma was a devout Muslim. Nothing must stand in his way anytime he hears the call for Muslim prayers.”
The president condoled with Darma’s family, political associates, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the APC family in the state. He prayed for comfort for the family and asked Allah to grant Darma Aljanna Firdaus.
