From Okey Sampson, Umuahia

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has  inaugurated principal officers of Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers in Umuahia.

Otti charged the new leadership of the council which has Eze Linus Nto Mba as chairman, to mobilise their colleagues to assist government in fighting violent crime in the State.

The governor informed the traditional rulers that government launched Operation Crush to tackle criminality in the State and urged the monarchs to collaborate with government to achieve the needed security in the State.

Otti stated that his administration was bringing a new Abia where government would provide social amenities beyond the urban areas, stressing that support of the traditional rulers would be critical in that direction.

Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Uzor Nwachukwu, said the inauguration of the ninth Council was a landmark event as the new set of principal officers would be part of the team to do a new thing in the state.

Eze Mba assured that they would do their best to pilot the affairs of the council and remain committed to supporting the governor to better the State.

Other members of the Council include Eze Nelson Nmerengwa, 1st deputy chairman, Eze Franklin Nwosu, 2nd deputy chairman and Eze Uwakwe Ukaegbu, 3rd deputy chairman.

Senator representing Abia Central, Chief Darlington Nwokocha, described women as a positive force in the society and assured them that things are changing for the better in Abia State.

He thanked wife of the governor for organising this year’s  women August meeting and expressed hope that important decisions that would impact positively on women would be taken.
