The Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sport in Osun State, Kola Adewusi, has expressed displeasure over the condition of infrastructure at the Osogbo city stadium.

He said the government has embarked on a transformative journey to revitalize the sports industry in the state, shape a prosperous future for Osun, and elevate sports performance at every level.

Adewusi stated this at the Exco Chamber of the Governor’s office, Abere, while briefing the press on the state of sports and efforts to improve sports facilities.

He bemoaned the worrisome state and porosity of the stadium, promising that plans have been perfected to build a perimeter fence around the stadium and secure a befitting camp for the female athletes.

“We are particularly concerned about the state of the Osogbo Township Stadium which is supposed to be the flagship of all sports facilities at the state capital. Improvement in our sports facilities will assist our youths to engage in different kinds of sports by bringing them out of the streets.

“If you see the camp where the female football team are staying, it is unimaginable, I visited the place and I looked around, I saw it myself but I have gotten another place for them now which is fantastic. I will do more for them and other sports. Things are changing and before next month you will start seeing how things are happening.

“A committee that will work for the establishment of the Sports Commission will be inaugurated before the end of the month, I have the names of all members already, they are respected members like Felix Owolabi and Chief Ademola Adeshina. They will proffer solutions to challenges we are facing in sports across all the games.

“A comprehensive upgrade of sports facilities across the State is on our plan. These improvements will extend to the sports facilities in zones such as Iwo, Ilesha, Ile-Ife, Osogbo, Ilesa Orangun, Ede, Ejigbo, and so on, ensuring that athletes have access to top-notch facilities.

“We will restructure the Osun State Games Village located between
Ijebu-Jesa and Ijeda in Oriade local government area. This facility will serve as a hub for athlete training and preparation, as well as hosting various competitions, further solidifying Osun State’s status as a sports powerhouse,” Adewusi said.
