Osun Decides: Voting begins at Orisumbare in Ede by 8:30am

Voting exercise has commenced at Orisunbare Village, Polling Unit One, Ward Five, in Ede South Local Government Area of Osun State, at exactly 8:30am.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were ready for the commencement of the exercise at the polling unit before 8:30am. Also, more than 100 voters were at the polling units before the commencement of the exercise.

The electorate were made comfortable because tents and chairs were procured for them. They sat down under the tent according to their numbers. When the exercise began, the voters stood up one by one and approached the INEC officials for accreditation, collection of ballot papers and eventual voting.

International observers from the United States of America, were also sighted at the polling unit. They are from the International Republican Institute and National Democratic Institute.

There was no report of malfunctioning of BVAS.

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the ongoing gubernatorial poll in Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has exercised his franchise.

He voted at Unit Nine, Ward Two, Sagba/Abogunde in Ede North Local Government Area as early as 8:50am. Within two minutes, he completed the exercise and returned to his Adeagbo family house at Adeagbo area of Ede.

In a short interview with journalists, he described the exercise as very impressive so far. He was optimistic of winning the poll.

Eligible voters in Ede, the country home of the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic (PDP), Senator Ademola Adeleke, trooped out en masse to exercise their franchise in the ongoing gubernatorial poll.

In more than 12 polling units that have been visited so far by this reporter in Ede South with 10 wards and Ede North with 11 wards, voters were seen casting their votes for the candidates of their choice. In some places, the voters were on queues, and in other places, voters were made to sit down on chairs under tents.

The election processes and procedures adopted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) include voting by continuous accreditation and voting system.

The accreditation process in all the polling units comprised authentication and verification of voters with the use of the Bimodal Accreditation Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), checking of register of voters, inking of the cuticle of the thumb.

Accreditation and voting exercise commenced at 8:30am in all the polling units visited by this reporter. The voting exercise is expected to stop at 2:30pm, but every voter already in the queue shall be allowed to vote.
