The Osun State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps, has apprehended three persons for allegedly stealing 97 goats in Ila-Orangun.
According to a statement released by spokesperson, Yusuf Abass, on Friday, the suspects were identified as Ajayi Tope (34) from Ila-Orangun, and Babalola Afeez (46) and Tajudeen Isiaka (46), both from Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State. He said they were arrested on the night of December 31, 2024, when Amotekun operatives responded to complaints from residents about the ongoing disappearance of goats in the area.
Following the complaints, Amotekun operatives monitored the situation and caught the suspects in the act as they returned to Ila-Orangun to steal more goats. He explained that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects admitted their involvement and confessed to stealing goats on eight separate occasions. They alleged that they sold the stolen goats to their accomplice, Ibrahim Akona, in Ado-Ekiti, for N20,000 per goat after each theft.

Adekunle Omoyele, the Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, praised the vigilance and professionalism of the Ila-Orangun team. He described the arrest as a significant achievement, noting that the suspects had traveled from a neighboring state to commit livestock theft in the community. Omoyele confirmed that the 97 stolen goats were sold in Ado-Ekiti and that efforts are underway to apprehend the alleged kingpin, Ibrahim Akona, who is currently at large.
He urged the residents of Osun State to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly, ensuring cooperation with the Amotekun Corps.
The commander reassured the public of the corps’ dedication to protecting lives and property, emphasizing that criminals will not find refuge in the state, as Amotekun stands ready to maintain security across Osun and its surroundings.
