Osun 2026: APC aspirant pledges to end ‘reckless borrowing’
From Lateef Dada, Osogbo
A governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Engr. Dideolu Falobi has vowed to put an end to ‘reckless borrowing’ if elected as governor come 2026.
Speaking at a media parley in Osogbo on Thursday, Falobi emphasised his commitment to intelligent management, strategic partnerships, and responsible spending to drive the state’s development.
He expressed concern about the ongoing issues of poverty, insecurity, and underemployment affecting many residents.
“We will not fund Osun’s development through reckless borrowing but by managing our resources wisely,” he stated, highlighting the state’s rich endowments of intelligent people, fertile land, natural resources, and a proud heritage.
Falobi outlined his vision to rebuild trust, restore confidence, and renew hope, aiming to create an Osun that benefits all citizens, not just a select few. “We will focus on rebuilding our roads, schools, hospitals, and governance systems with transparency and quality control, engaging local contractors and professionals,” he added.
He reiterated the need to shift from consumption to production by establishing agro-industrial clusters, promoting tourism, and responsibly harnessing solid minerals, saying “Our goal is to make Osun a net contributor to Nigeria’s GDP and a hub for investment and innovation,” he stated.
Falobi also expressed his commitment to restoring public trust by ensuring governance is open, inclusive, and accountable. He stressed the importance of security, justice, and the rule of law, asserting that communities should have a voice in their development.
Recognising the potential of Osun’s people, Falobi pledged to invest significantly in education, vocational training, and digital skills to empower youths, women, and children to create and sustain wealth.
“We will modernise our revenue systems using technology to prevent leakages and expand the tax base without overburdening citizens,” Falobi said.
He proposed the establishment of the Osun Diaspora Development Fund to attract investments from the diaspora community, ensuring transparency and regular reporting. Falobi also plans to seek grants and concessional loans from federal and international development partners, particularly in infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
“Every project will be transparently costed and independently monitored to eliminate waste, duplication, and inflated contracts. Under my leadership, Osun will spend wisely and account publicly,” he added.
He said his vision was aimed at creating a sustainable and prosperous future for Osun, anchored in responsible governance and community engagement.
