Two students of Osnon Academy, Uga, Anambra State represented the state at the finals of the South East Maths Olympiad after emerging among the top performers during the earlier stage of the competition.

The students, Emmanuel Chinwuba and Ronald Okpala, both in Year Nine, emerged first and third respectively in Anambra during the qualifying round.

Chinwuba scored 117 out of 120, while Okpala recorded 112 out of 120 in the computer-based examination.

Their performance qualified them to represent Anambra at the Olympiad finals held in March alongside other top participants from across the South East.

The competition attracted students from several schools in the region, with Osnon Academy presenting 10 participants.

Osnon Academy is a free school initiative supported by VFD Group Plc and promoted by its Group Managing Director, Nonso Okpala. The school is also backed by organisations including Anchoria Asset Management, Bvndle, and the Chude and Ego Foundation.

Speaking on the students’ performance, Okpala said the outcome reflected the objective of the initiative to expand access to quality education.

“This achievement fills me with immense pride. Seeing Emmanuel and Ronald rise to the top in a competition of this calibre is deeply rewarding, not just as a sponsor of this initiative, but also as someone who believes strongly in the transformative power of education. Osnon Academy was created to give bright young minds access to opportunity, and today we are witnessing that vision come alive.

“To every young person, strive boldly for your dreams. Be vigorous in the pursuit of your academics and whatever you set your heart on. Excellence is not accidental; it is built through discipline, curiosity and courage. The future belongs to those who prepare for it,” she stated.

The Head of School, Arinze Izuegbunam, said the school community received the results with gratitude to institutions supporting the programme.
