Osimhen under fire over face mask after defender suffers fracture

Osimhen

A debate is now raging in Turkey whether or not Victor Osimhen should be allowed to wear his face mask to play after a head collision left a Rizespor defender with facial fracture.

On Saturday, Osimhen made his Galatasaray debut with a resounding 5-0 home win over Rizespor, who also lost defender Khusnidden Alikulov to a broken cheek bone after a head collision with the Super Eagles striker.

Rizespor medical team announced the injury and further reported that the player was treated in hospital.

Social media in Turkey was abuzz with some users claiming Osimhen’s mask has metallic screws which may have caused the injury.

Ironically, Osimhen himself was forced to wear a mask after he suffered a serious facial injury playing for Napoli against Inter Milan in November 2021.

The mask is to protect him from another such injury.
