Victor Osimhen has thrown his support behind Galatasaray goalkeeper Günay Güvenç following the club’s surprise exit from the Turkish Cup.

Galatasaray crashed out in the quarter-finals after a shock 2-0 defeat to Gençlerbirliği S.K., ending their hopes of retaining the trophy. The result came just days after the Istanbul side had beaten the same opponents in a league fixture.

Güvenç endured a difficult night, with errors contributing to both goals. His rebound from an initial save allowed Fıratcan Üzüm to open the scoring early in the second half.

The experienced goalkeeper was again at fault later in the game when he misjudged a corner, spilled the ball, and handed Adama Traoré a simple finish to seal Galatasaray’s elimination.

Frustrated supporters voiced their displeasure at the final whistle, and the 34-year-old was visibly emotional as he left the pitch in tears.

Osimhen, however, quickly rallied behind his teammate, urging fans not to define the goalkeeper by one disappointing performance.

“We stand with Günay Güvenç. One moment doesn’t define a player. Mistakes are part of football. It can never outweigh the effort, commitment, and passion he brings to the team,” Osimhen wrote on Instagram.

“Football is a game of highs and lows. What truly matters is how we respond and how we support each other through those moments.”

The match also marked Osimhen’s return from injury, providing a timely boost for Galatasaray ahead of a crucial league clash.

The Turkish champions now turn their attention to Sunday’s heavyweight showdown against Fenerbahçe S.K., a match that could prove decisive in the Super Lig title race.

Galatasaray currently sit top of the table on 71 points, four ahead of their fierce rivals with four matches left to play.
