This year’s edition of the Freedom Festival Week (FFW) 2025, scheduled for between September 28 and October 2 will revive traditions and empower more communities.
According to the organisers of Órüpézá festival, the event would carry over the momentum of the 2024 celebration staged to mark Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary.
Over the course of five days, the Freedom party week would transform the city again with a mix of music, film, fashion, dance, gaming, visual arts and culinary showcases, weaving tradition and modernity into an immersive cultural encounter. The organiser said the ambition is not just to entertain, but to create a living, breathing space where communities connect and the idea of freedom is explored through art in its most vibrant forms.
Festival Director, Edi Lawani, described the festival as a cultural economy in motion. “Last year, we honoured legends who paved the way. This year, we are deepening that vision by creating more platforms for youth, communities and new stories. Órüpézá is about freedom, but it is also about belonging and legacy,” he said.
Projections suggest that this year’s edition could attract over 20,000 participants, a scale that not only reinforces Lagos’ standing as a cultural capital but also positions Órüpézá as one of Nigeria’s most consequential festivals.
In a season where conversations about cultural diplomacy and soft power are gaining urgency, Órüpézá Festival offers more than entertainment. It is a reminder that culture remains one of the most potent ways communities can reclaim narratives, assert identity and imagine futures.
