Organizers of the National Anti-Corruption Marathon race has flagged off the 5th edition with commencement of registration for participant for the programme scheduled for December 9th in Abuja.
The National co-ordinator of the programme, Jacob Onu disclosed that many Nigerians are joining forces with us to fight the menace of corruption in the country. The marathon is to raise awareness on the fight against corruption in the country. As you run and endure, you must equally remember that the fight against corruption is a long, difficult and sometime frustrating one , the one underlying factor is that we must never relent in our effort to fight the menac”
“Our marathon race is symbolic in that without perseverance and endurance one can’t start and finish a marathon race. Just as we are fighting and battling corruption one one hand we are equally against the use of drugs enhancing substance by athletes in our sports. The effects are enormous. We encourage athletes to shun vices as it’s ungodly, immoral and cheating.
He also stated that the marathon winners got their prizes immediately after the race.
The technical director of the race, Henry Amike stated that ‘all registration are open and can be easily done online. This year edition will be far bigger and better. We want to encourage our athletes to perform well so that they too can do same outside the shore of Nigeria.
Lending support to the race, Mrs. Rita Mosindi the Athletics Federation of Nigeria(AFN) secretary general promised that the AFN will give their technical support to the race.
“The AFN is proud to be associated with the National Anti-Corruption Marathon race because they followed due process and are not defaulting in the area of paying athletes their prize money. Their race is also well organized though not yet a label or internationally recognized but they are not involved in doing sharp practices like some unscrupulous ones who are tarnishing the image of the sport and cheating athletes.
Caleb Gidado the African Union Sports Council Region 2 in his goodwill message urges athletes to use the race to break national and African records in the marathon race. He promised that his organization will fully back the marathon.
Preceding the marathon race will be the National Youth and Students Summit on Anti-Corruption and Drug Abuse coming up on Friday December 8th at the Nile University Auditorium in Abuja whereby notable lecturers will present papers on various topics to commemorate the event.
The marathon race is 21.5km which will start at Eagles Square through the National Stadium and terminates at the Unity Fountain in Abuja.
