The Oko Youth Association (OYA),  in Orumba North Local Government of Anambra State  has picked holes in the planned plot by a group of people in  Oko  community to install a caretaker committee  by stopping the  election of  the Oko People’s Union (OPU)  earlier billed for  last month.
The President of OYA, Mr Emmanuel Izuegbunam, while insisting on general election  in a statement  said the posture of the minority  group  in the  community led by Sir. Ephraim Offorma and Sopuruchukwu Ezeonwuka , representing  Orumba Federal constituency, undermined   the decision of the Oko community in conducting elections in September this  year as amended in the constitution of  OPU.
According to  Izuegbunam, it is not the decision of the town union to put in place a caretaker committee, warning that any group that subverts the decision of the Oko community will be dealt with according to the law.
“ We   were shocked to learn that the minority group  has stopped the town union  election  that was supposed to hold last month.
The good people of Oko town are not experiencing any form of crisis. The plan to install a caretaker committee for whatever interest is worrisome. This is capable of setting the town back. Their agenda is capable of causing disintegration in the community.”
Why should a caretaker committer be set when the entire community has constitutionally agreed to conduct election?  Their posture calls for questioning. This is unconstitutional. The current executive of OPU wants to conduct democratic election and hand over in December, 2016 as stated by the constitution as amended.
To move Oko forward and achieve unity and peaceful coexistence among the indigenes,  the youth leader  warned  that  “whosoever is part of this plot to install a caretaker committee should  desist from such act – we advise anybody or group of persons that have been appointed to be part of the caretaker committee to turn such offer down for the sake of peace as the town will not accept such and will do everything within its power to oppose such committee.
“We also call upon His Excellency, Chief Willy Obiano the Executive Governor of Anambra State to use his good office to disapprove such uncanny plot as this is likely to degenerate into a community clash which we do not need at this point in time,” he added.
