OOU to graduate 147 First Class students, others at 35th convocation

Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, is set to commence activities marking its 35th convocation ceremonies for the 2024/2025 academic session.

The convocation ceremonies, scheduled to take place from Thursday, 22 January to Saturday, 31 January 2026 at the main campus, Ago-Iwoye, will feature a series of events to be chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ayodeji Johnson Agboola.

A statement signed by the Deputy Registrar, Corporate Affairs Division of OOU, Niyi Oduwole, said that on Thursday, 22 January, the activities will formally begin with a briefing at the University Senate Chamber. Also, at 2.00 p.m., there will be an undergraduate (graduating) class meeting with the vice-chancellor.

As part of the programmes lined up, a health walk for staff and students will be held on Friday, 23 January at the main campus, while a special Jumat service will take place at the As-Sujood Mosque of the university.

He further added that on Sunday, 25 January, a convocation service will take place at the Chapel of Abundant Life, main campus, while the vice-chancellor’s meeting with PhD graduands and a musical concert will occur on Monday, 26 January at the Senate Chamber and OGD Hall, respectively. According to him, on Tuesday, 27 January, the Cultural Day and Convocation Play will be hosted, with the Agriculture and Engineering Show as well as a novelty match scheduled for Wednesday, 28 January.

Oduwole disclosed that the university will, on Thursday, 29 January, award bachelor’s degrees to graduands from the Faculties of Arts, Basic Medical Sciences, Education, Law, Pharmacy, and Social Sciences.

“The convocation train will, on Friday, 30 January, confer degree awards on graduands from the Faculties of Administration and Management Sciences, Agricultural Management and Rural Development, Agricultural Production and Renewable Resources, Clinical Sciences, Engineering, Environmental Studies, and Science,” he stated.

The image maker said the high point and grand finale of the convocation ceremonies will be on Saturday, 31 January, with the conferment of postgraduate degrees and the award of prizes, as well as the conferment of an honorary degree of Doctor of Science on Mr Ayo Ojuroye, Founder of Optimus Bank and Chairman of Mango Asset Management. On the same day, the convocation lecture entitled, “Repositioning Nigerian Universities as Innovation Hubs for Entrepreneurship and National Development,” will be delivered by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr ‘Bosun Tijani.

Oduwole noted that a total of 5,808 graduands, including both full-time students and those from the Centre for Continuing Education (CCED) and Open and Distance Learning (ODL) programmes, will convoke.

The breakdown shows that there are 147 graduands who earned First Class; a total of 2,051 in Second Class Upper Division; 2,927 in Second Class Lower Division; while 571 others obtained Third Class.

He said a total of 26 graduands obtained Pass degrees, with 86 others uncategorised.

The PRO revealed that the Visitor to the University and Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, is the special guest of honour at the occasion, which is expected to attract distinguished academics, government functionaries, captains of industry, and eminent Nigerians from all walks of life.
