The Student Union Government of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye has distanced itself from a statement backing Special Assistant to Ogun Governor Dapo Abiodun on Student Matters, Comrade Adeyemi Azeez, over alleged palliatives diversion.
In a Sunday statement, the SUG Chairman, Senator Muizz Olarenwaju Olatunji, said the union under his leadership did not consent to a purported statement released in his name on the matter and published in some sections of the media.
He urged Governor Abiodun and the Department of State Services (DSS) to thoroughly investigate the unauthorized use of the union’s name to push a false agenda.
The statement reads, “The Students’ Union Government of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, firmly disassociates itself from the false publication recently circulated in the name of OOUSUG.
“We state without ambiguity that the statement did not originate from our Union, was never authorised, and constitutes a clear case of impersonation. Our Union recognises only the duly constituted leadership of NANS at the State, Zonal, and National levels, and no external individual has the authority to speak on behalf of OOU students.”
The SUG said while it did not claim allegations against the governor’s aide were facts, they certainly warranted immediate attention given their serious nature.
“Any act alleged or confirmed that misrepresents the position of OOUSUG or exploits the name of our respected institution for political messaging is unacceptable and detrimental to the integrity of student governance in Ogun State.
“In view of these concerns, we respectfully call on His Excellency, the Governor of Ogun State, to order a transparent and comprehensive investigation into the impersonation of OOUSUG and all related activities involving Mr. Adeyemi Azeez Amoo.
“We also urge the DSS and other relevant security agencies to examine the unauthorized use of our Union’s identity, as such actions pose a clear threat to institutional credibility and public trust,” the statement further reads.
The OOU SUG also charged the governor’s aide to desist from using its name to pursue personal or political gains as such would not be tolerated.
