The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has again warned Governor Rotimi Akeredolu against dissolution of the existing local government administration in the state.

The party also cautioned the present administration in the state not to embark on vendetta mission on the local government administration.

Already, the state government has frozen the account of all the 18 local government areas in the state.

Also, the state government has removed the names of all supervisory Councilors and secretaries from its pay roll.

But the PDP, in a statement by its Director of Publicity, Mr. Ayo Fadaka, described the government’s actions as acts of vendetta and threatened to challenge them.

The party urged Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to concentrate on the task of governing the state, rather than causing troubles through his actions, stressing that there was the need for him to settle down very quickly to the business of administering the State and leave the opposition parties alone.

The statement read in part:  “It is our firm conviction that there are direct challenges that compel the immediate attention of the Governor which he must dedicate time to solve in our health, education and infrastructural sectors rather than concentrating on actions calculated to frustrate the Local Governments.”

“It continues to amaze us that the Akeredolu’s government has stooped low to take some actions targeted at frustrating the local government system in spite of existing laws, regulations and even Supreme Court verdict that guarantees the sanctity of the election and tenure of elected Chairmen and Councilors.

“We still cannot get an adequate excuse from government on whatever reasons that made it to freeze the accounts of the local governments or even to systematically seek to sack the Secretaries and Supervisors by clandestinely removing their names from the list of council officials.

“These actions to us is nothing short of vendetta and we belief that a man of Akeredolu’s standing should be above such, considering his pedigree, exposure and competence.

“One indisputable fact that we however appreciate is that the issue of dissolving local governments’ elected administration is an impossible action in today’s Nigeria when due cognizance is paid to the last Supreme Court judgment on this issue. Therefore, we declare that it remains in the interest of the state for the APC administration of Arakunrin Akeredolu to allow the Local Governments to discharge their responsibilities unencumbered.”

“We again urge our dear Arakunrin to please allow the local governments to discharge their constitutional responsibilities to the people, while he also settles down squarely to administer our state flawlessly. As a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, he cannot afford to be seen as trying to compromise the judicial system through his actions or even inactions and we want to trust that he is too matured and refined to tread this path,” the statement added.
