The First Lady,Senator Oluremi Tinubu has flag-off the distribution of food palliatives to 2,100 less privileged women across the 21 Local Government Areas of Kebbi State.
The beneficiaries of the palliatives who were drawn from the 21 local governments in the state include women groups and Persons Living with Disability (PLD) among others.
While speaking at the distribution of the items in Birnin Kebbi, Tinubu explained that the gesture was to cushion the effects of the global economy downturn on the less privileged.
First Lady,who was represented by the Kebbi first lady,Hajia Zainab Nasir Idris, who doubles as the state Coordinator of the programme, said that the palliatives distribution was in the line with the President Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda of reaching poor women and people with special needs.
She said : ” today we are flagging off the second phase distribution of palliatives to cushion the effect of the ongoing economic reforms of Mr. President. We have additional 10kg of rice from the Kebbi state government which we have packaged with 25kg from the federal government”.
Tinubu explained that, a similar gesture was done earlier this year whereby, elderly women were given N100,000 each as a start up capital for petty trade which was also followed by food as gifts to people with disabilities all in an effort by the present administration to give hope to Nigerians.
She noted that it was part of the determination of the government to ease the pains citizens were enduring because of the ongoing reforms geared towards economic turn around .
The first Lady urged Nigerians to continue to pray for President and other Nigeria’s Leaders for them to succeed and thanked the Kebbi youth for refusing to partake in the protest.
Speaking at the event, the commissioner for humanitarian, represented by Director humanitarian, Alhaji Halilu Abubakar stated that humanitarian ministry was created by Kebbi government to assist people in need which is also in line with president Tinubu renewed hope agenda.
He added that ,since the inception of the new ministry, it has lived up to its expectation of giving succour to the poor, vulnerable women and people with disabilities in the state.
According to him, ” we are complementing what the wife of the President is doing at the state level with the assistance of our governor,Dr Nasir Idris and his wife,Zainab Nasare Idris”.
Earlier, the commissioner for information and culture,Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed in his goodwill message described the event as historic giving the situation of the country which demands urgent help from the government to the people particularly those at the bottom of the ladder in the society.
Ahmed said that, Kebbi first lady is always on her toes to ensure people who needs help get it at the time they need it, he admonished the beneficiaries to make good use of the items.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Basic Education,Dr. Halima Muhammad Bande, represented by the Special Assistant to the Governor on women affairs, explained the the Governor’s Wife has been catering for women and less privileged across the 21 LGAs in the state.
According to her, ” here in Kebbi State,we don’t delay the distribution of any palliatives that come to the state. We immediately take action and ensure that the palliatives get to the people that needed it most. I urge all the beneficiaries to go back home and share your palliatives with your families”, she said.
