The Director General of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Bukola Olopade, has praised the increasing level of investment and professional expertise being introduced into the Nigeria National League by Toptier Sports Management, describing it as a major step toward improving the structure, quality and visibility of the competition.

Olopade made the remarks after watching a league match between Abeokuta Stormers and Solution FC on Sunday, noting that the fixture gave him the opportunity to observe firsthand the positive developments currently taking place within the league.

The NSC Director General specifically commended the Chief Executive Officer of Toptier Sports Management, Chichi Nwoko, for the organisation’s commitment to investing in the league and introducing modern sports management practices aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s second-tier football competition.

According to Olopade, the involvement of professional sports management organisations is vital for the growth of domestic leagues.

“I must first commend Toptier Sports Management and its founder, Chichi Nwoko, for bringing fresh ideas, professionalism and investment into the Nigeria National League,” he said. “When organisations with strong expertise in sports management come into our domestic leagues, it helps improve standards and creates new opportunities for players, clubs and the league as a whole.”

Olopade noted that such investments are critical to the sustainable growth of Nigerian football, particularly in areas including league branding, broadcast visibility, fan engagement and professional administration.

“Improving the visibility of the league is extremely important. With better management structures and increased private sector involvement, the quality of the competition will continue to grow and more Nigerians will begin to follow the league with renewed interest,” he added.

The NSC boss also commended the leadership of the NNL Chairman, George Aluo, for working with stakeholders to reposition the league and strengthen its operations.

“George Aluo and his team have shown strong leadership and commitment in ensuring that the Nigeria National League continues to evolve. The collaboration between the league leadership and professional sports management organisations like Toptier will only accelerate the progress we are beginning to see,” Olopade said.

The Nigeria National League serves as the country’s second-tier football competition and plays a crucial role in the development of players and clubs seeking promotion to Nigeria’s elite football division.

Olopade reiterated that the National Sports Commission would continue to support initiatives that promote professionalism, private sector investment and improved governance across the country’s sports sector.

The statement was signed by Kola Daniel, Special Assistant on Media in the Office of the Director General, National Sports Commission, and dated March 10, 2026.
