Former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, and Senator Ede Dafinone have emerged winners of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primaries in Delta State, in a contest that produced clear victories across the three senatorial districts.

Okowa secured the APC ticket for Delta North, while Dafinone retained his position as the party’s candidate for Delta Central, defeating former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, in a decisive outcome.

In Delta South, incumbent Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas also recorded a strong performance, leading in multiple local government areas as results continued to emerge at the time of filing this report.

The primaries were conducted using the direct primary (Option A4) system, with party officials describing the exercise as peaceful and largely orderly across wards in the state.

Announcing the Delta Central result, the Secretary of the APC National Assembly Primary Committee for Delta State, Nusa Amagbor, declared that Dafinone won by a wide margin.

“Based on the authenticated results before me; Senator Ede Dafinone scored a total of 116,252 votes, his opponent scored a total of 3,643 votes,” he said.

He added that the process met all party requirements, stating:

“Having satisfied all the requirements of our great party and having secured the highest number of valid votes cast in this primary, Senator Ede Dafinone is hereby declared the winner of the Delta Central Senatorial District primary election.”

In Delta North, returning officer Eugene Odo confirmed Okowa’s victory after he polled an overwhelming majority of votes.

“Senator Ifeanyi Okowa is hereby declared the winner of the Delta North Senatorial District primary election,” Odo announced.

According to the official results, Okowa polled 113,309 votes, while Senator Ned Nwoko scored 2,612 votes, and Mariam Ali recorded 40 votes.

In Delta South, party officials said Joel-Onowakpo Thomas maintained a clear lead across six of the eight local government areas, with Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials monitoring the exercise.

Reacting after his victory, Senator Dafinone described the primaries as transparent and called for unity within the party ahead of the general elections.

“The process of the primaries was conducted in a manner that was transparent, open, free, and fair,” he said.

He also extended an olive branch to his rival, urging reconciliation within the party.

“I will also take this opportunity to call on Distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege to join forces with other members of our party so that we can work together for victory in 2027 across all positions,” Dafinone added.

The outcomes position the APC for a competitive race in Delta State ahead of the 2027 general elections, as major political figures consolidate support within their respective districts.
