All is set for the commencement, in October, of the engineering internship scholarship, offered by Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines, Obiora Okonkwo, to students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State.
This followed the signing and exchange of the final documents and memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Okonkwo and UNIZIK Vice Chancellor, Charles Esimone, in Abuja last Friday.
According to the agreement, Okonkwo will take between 10 to 20 engineering students of UNIZIK on a fully funded internship scholarship at the engineering department of United Nigeria Airlines, which he founded.
The lucky students will also be fully accommodated and paid stipends by the company during the duration of the internship where they will be taken through the rudiments of aircraft engineering.
The students also have opportunity to immediate employment upon completion of their national youth service scheme.
Okonkwo had, in October 2021, unveiled a series of plans to boost human capital development at the university.
Unveiling his plans for the university last October, Okonkwo promised, among the internship scholarships offer, to facilitate the introduction of a Russian language department at the university as well as an academic exchange programme between UNIZIK and Russian universities on the platform of the Nigeria-Russia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which he heads as president.
