The Police have said that commercial motorcycle operators ( Okada) complied with the Lagos State Governments order on restricted areas .
The Lagos State Government had penultimate Thursday, through the state’s Commissioner for Transportation, Frederic Oladeinde, announced the second phase of the ban of Okada riders on four additional local government areas.
The LGAs are Kosofe, Oshodi-Isolo, Shomolu, and Mushin, while the affected LCDAs are Ikosi-Isheri, Agboyi-Ketu, Isolo, Ejigbo, Bariga and Odi-Olowo.
According to him,“the governor has approved the ban of Okada in another four LGAs and six LCDAs for the second phase of the total ban in addition to the ongoing ban in the six LGAs,” the commissioner said.
Following the ban, Okada riders had stormed the Government office Alausa saying that they would resist the restriction order which the efforcement started yesterday, September 1.
Following the threat, Security agencies led by the police on Wednesday, showed force in preparednes to effect the total ban of Commercial motorcycle operators (Okada riders) in the four additional local government areas and respective local government councils in the areas. The enforcement order .
The security agencies , warned Okada riders, to steer clear of the restricted areas or risk their wrath.
However, during the enforcement order yesterday, no Okada rider was seen on the road. The policemen gave kudos to the riders and advised them to adhere strictly to the order as it was a continuous exercise.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bejamin Hundeyin, told our Correspondent that no arrest was made since no Okada rider violated the restriction order.
He advised that the riders should maintain peace and order in their own interest as any Okada riders who violate the law would be arrested and prosecuted in the law Court.
On May 18, following several complaints over the growing menace and nuisance constituted by Okada riders, Governor Sanwo-Olu imposed a fresh ban on the operations in in six local governments and nine LCDAs to curtail the unruly activities of the riders. The latest affected areas are : Kosofe, Ikosi-Isheri, Oshodi -Isolo, Mushin, including respective LCDs in the areas.
