Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has said the exit of its president general, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu (Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo), is a blow to the Igbo nation and a death too many.

Secretary General of the body, Okey Emuchay, who led a delegation of Ohanaeze leadership to pay a condolence visit to the family of the demised’s Igbo leader, at his Owerri, Imo State, country home, said his death has left everybody in a quandary.

He said Iwuanyanwu was an amazing person in many ways, adding that they will always treasure the time they had with him.

According to a statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Alex Ogbonnia, the scribe said: “Iwuanyanwu was the man who was fervently committed to Igbo cause. His preoccupation was Igbo in all ramifications. He was a man who had related with persons of diverse fields of human endeavour and developed genuine friends and contacts in all parts of Igbo land in particular, and most parts of the world.

“He deployed his business and political acumen in the service of Igbo land. He had the welfare of the Igbo in his thoughts until his last breath.”

He said the best they could do for Iwuanyanwu to sustain his legacies was to implement the enviable visions and programmes he had articulated in Ohanaeze Ndigbo for a better Igbo land.

Acknowledging that death is part of existential reality, Emuchay said they shall find solace in the superlative memories of his lifetime.

“On behalf of the NEC of Ohanaeze, the various organs of Ohanaeze and, indeed, all the sons of Igbo land, we send our deepest sympathy at this most challenging moment,” he said.

He urged the family members to bear the irreparable loss, assuring them that Ndigbo, all over the world, will strive in unison to bid their fallen hero a befitting farewell.

Iwuanyanwu’s first son, Jidechukwu, thanked Ohanaeze Ndigbo for the visit and the kind words, pointing out that there had been an overwhelming outpour of emotions from all parts of the world since their patriarch departed.

The widow, Frances, also thanked the Ohanaeze delegation.
