A faction of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Lagos, led by Chief Nnamdi Nwigwe, has endorsed the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Babajide Sanwo-olu.
Nwigwe announced the endorsement at a ceremony in Amuwo Odofin, Lagos, yesterday.
He said his group made the decision to support Sanwo-Olu because of the performance of the party in Lagos since 1999.
He also said that the decision of President Muhammadu Buhari, to renovate the Zik mausoleum and continue with the construction of the Second Niger Bridge, made him love the party.
“Many of us present here will work tirelessly to ensure that we deliver all the Igbo votes in Lagos to Sanwo-Olu. We decided to endorse him because of the legacy the APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu left behind. Lagos is where it is today because of the brilliance of Tinubu and those who came after him and that is why Ohanaeze Ndigbo has made the decision to endorse Sanwo-Olu of the APC for governor,” Nwigwe said.
In his response, on behalf of Sanwo-Olu, the former state APC chairman, Henry Ajomale, said APC has promised to ensure that it implements more business friendly policies to help every Lagos resident.
“The successful businesses that most Igbo run in Lagos was made possible by the business friendly policies put in place by the APC government and we will ensure that such policies continue. Igbo and Yoruba have always lived in harmony, from the time of the late Nnamdi Azikiwe who win elections in the Western region when he was alive. There is nothing that will change that special relationship that we have.”
