Despite the attack on the convoy of the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Peter Obi, in Calabar, supporters say violence will not stop the movement for a new Nigeria.
The House of Representatives candidate for Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency, Obah Edom Tawo, said the overwhelming love for Obi in Cross River State was proof that Nigerians were tired of hunger, pain and bad governance.
“Violence does not stop the hunger in our stomachs. Violence cannot stop the cry of the mother at home with no food for her children,” Tawo said.
“Everywhere Peter Obi goes, there is an overwhelming love for the man because he is the spearhead of the consciousness that each and every one of us is seeking.
“We as a people, not just as a party, we are looking at a Nigeria for tomorrow, a Nigeria for my children, for your children.”
On the attack, Tawo said violence was not accepted or tolerated, but it would not stop the truth.
“Our people as Nigerians are dedicated to a single cause, to a better Nigeria and we have identified a way to achieve that,” he said.
He urged those behind political violence to join in building a better future.
On his programmes, Tawo said he would engage and cultivate the grassroots, interacting with women, children, youths and fathers to understand their pain points.
He added that his programmes would be targeted at those pain points, including healthcare, education and support for the physically challenged.
“The difference will be the human touch, the ability to understand and work with those you are governing,” he said.
