The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, distanced itself from a purported press release circulating in the media concerning comments allegedly linked to the former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Dr Ezechi Chukwu, the group said it categorically disassociated itself from the controversial statement, insisting that the views expressed do not reflect the position or official communication of the organisation.
According to the statement, the organisation, under the leadership of its President-General, Senator Azuta Mbata, remained non-partisan and would not serve as a political tool for any individual or political group.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide hereby categorically disassociates itself from the said statement in its entirety. The position expressed therein by these subversive elements does not represent the view, mandate, or official communication of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide,” the statement read.
The organisation stressed that it “is not and will never function as a political appendage, electoral proxy, or spokesperson for any political party or individual, regardless of affiliation or aspiration.”
Ohanaeze further condemned what it described as recurring attempts by certain individuals to exploit its name for partisan interests, personal gain and political leverage.
Describing such actions as “unfortunate, misleading and unacceptable,” the organisation urged members of the public and the media to disregard unauthorised statements issued outside its recognised leadership structure.
It clarified that Prince Okey Nwadinobi and Emeka Sibeudu remained the Deputy President-General and Secretary-General respectively, urging the public to rely only on verified communications issued through official channels to avoid further confusion.
