Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has charged members of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to demonstrate discipline, integrity and professionalism as they commence their primary assignments across the state.
Oborevwori gave the charge on Tuesday at the closing ceremony of the three-week 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Barr. Brave Enodeh, congratulated the corps members on the successful completion of the orientation exercise and commended them for their discipline, resilience and commitment throughout their stay at the camp.
The Governor said the orientation programme had equipped the corps members with values including discipline, teamwork, leadership, patriotism and selfless service, urging them to apply the lessons learnt at the camp to their various places of primary assignment.
Oborevwori noted that the impact of their service would depend on where they were posted and the commitment, integrity and professionalism they brought to their duties.
He said, “Whether you serve in schools, health facilities, government offices, private organisations, farms, or rural communities, strive for excellence. Be innovative, dependable and solution-oriented. Let your service leave a lasting and positive impact wherever you are deployed.”
Oborevwori also urged the corps members to contribute their knowledge, skills and creativity to the development of Delta State, describing them as important partners in the implementation of the state government’s MORE Agenda.
He also tasked them to be committed to the Community Development Service (CDS) projects by identifying the needs of their host communities and providing practical solutions capable of improving the lives of residents.
He appealed to employers and host institutions to provide conducive working environments, proper mentorship and opportunities for corps members to make meaningful contributions to their organisations.
The governor further advised the corps members to respect the customs and traditions of their host communities, promote peaceful coexistence and uphold the ideals of the NYSC Scheme.
“Above all, endeavour to leave every community better than you met it. Let your service be remembered for integrity, hard work, and a genuine commitment to nation-building.”
Earlier, the NYSC Delta State Coordinator, Mr. John Vandi T. Kwaghe, said the successful completion of the orientation course marked the conclusion of the first of the four cardinal programmes of the NYSC Scheme.
Kwaghe commended the corps members for their discipline, maturity and sense of responsibility throughout their stay at the camp, saying their conduct reflected the core values of the scheme.
He said the drills, sporting activities, lectures and social activities organised during the orientation promoted teamwork, discipline, physical fitness and healthy competition, while strengthening the spirit of unity among the corps members.
He commended camp officials for their professionalism and commitment to the safety, welfare and smooth coordination of the exercise.
Kwaghe expressed appreciation to the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, for his support and the enabling environment provided for the NYSC to operate effectively in the state.
He, however, appealed to the state government to implement its recent pronouncements on addressing the critical infrastructural needs of the orientation camp, noting that this would enhance NYSC operations and improve future orientation exercises.
He urged the corps members to remain law-abiding, respect the customs and traditions of their host communities and discharge their duties with diligence, humility and integrity.
