Earl Nightingale was on point when he said: “We will receive not what we idly wish for but what we justly earn. Our rewards will always be in exact proportion to our service.”

To rub it in, the Bible said: “And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.”

To be sure, people are recognized and rewarded for their action or lack of it. In other words, what you sow is what you reap.

Your attitude will go a long way in determining your success, your recognition and the position that you occupy. Some may not even be lucky to be recognized despite their good deeds. That is why Mother Teresa posited that “there is more hunger for love and appreciation in this world than for bread.”

Last Saturday, October 28, 2023, indigenes of  Amaekpu community in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State resident in Lagos State showed that Mazi James Eke is their beloved son in whom they are well pleased. In their numbers, they trooped to Isolo area of the state of aquatic splendour to celebrate and honour a good man, a man whose presence illuminates any environment, a man with a large heart.

At the colourful occasion, James Eke was made patron of 4th Ogwotemba Age Grade. And many said it was an honour well deserved.

After the “crowning of King James,” the president of Amaekpu Development Union, Lagos branch, Elder Nkem Udonsi Arua, offered profound words of admonition to the new patron and the members. Saying that he was ordained by God, he urged him not to disappoint them.

He said: “From today, change your method of coming to meetings. You are to guide your age grade. Carry them along. As a patron, you have to support them. For you to reign well, make sure you obey the law of the community.”

Arua urged Ogbetemba to always  listen to their patron and obey him because they brought him. “Respect him. Don’t challenge him. Visit your patron. Go there to learn from him and he will obey you. You chose him because you love him, work with him,” he counseled.

Many spoke glowingly about the man of the moment. They all agreed the cap fits him.

Mazi Uche Kalu, aka UC Global, said: His choice is perfect because he has always been a man of the people. He is a handsome man and he has a beautiful heart. He is reliable. He is tested and trusted. He cannot betray anyone and he is wisdom personified.

“They couldn’t have made a better choice. We pray he succeeds because the task is enormous. But there is no doubt that the people will be happy. You know, when the righteous is on the throne, the people rejoice.”

Uche Kalu urged the age grade to give him all the necessary cooperation or support for the good of all.

Another guest, Bishop Chibueze Okonkwo, wished James Eke and age grade well in all their undertakings. He said: “There is no doubt that James Eze will excel. He is a team player.”

Mazi Kalu Eke Chima added that James Eze “is a choice no one can fault. He has all it takes to lead well.”

One of the highpoints of the event was the display of the rich cultural heritage of Ohafia people. The men and women adorned resplendent traditional attires that define them.

Again, the unique dance pattern of Ohafia people were fully displayed. There was a welcome dance by the age grade and another one led by James Eke supported by his beautiful wife. Indeed, Eke displayed spectacular dance steps that elicited loud ovation from the guests.

The icing on the cake was the performance by Ogene Nwa Nsugbe. The energetic drumming and dexterous flute rendition captivated the audience in no small measure.
