The people of Ohafia Kingdom in Abia State are set to give a befitting funeral to their late monarch, Prof Emmanuel Ume Lekwa Imaga, the Udumeze of Ohafia, on July 6, at his country home in Elu Ohafia.
This was contained in a press statement issued by the Chairman of the Burial Central Working Committee, Prince Kalu Ikpemini, and the co-chairman, Chief Umeh Kalu (SAN), as well as the Secretary of the committee, Uma Ntima.
According to the statement, the four-day funeral activities would begin on July 3. It was further stated that a thanksgiving service would hold at the Presbyterian Church, Isiama Parish on Sunday, July 7.
This will be followed by an interdenominational service to be conducted by Dr. Uma Ukpai, the founder and president of Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, a non-denominational gospel ministry. Traditional rulers across the 26 villages in Ohafia, as well as the Ohafia clergy and community leaders at Achichi Ohafia are expected to attend the service.
The statement read in part: “The unique Ohafia tradition, custom and culture will be on display in the week long activities, while not undermining the late monarch’s Christian faith and belief.”
The committee enjoined all well meaning Ohafia sons and daughters residing in Nigeria and in the diaspora, including friends, neighbouring communities and in-laws of the Ohafia people to participate physically and virtually in all the activities marking the Udumeze’s final rites of passage.
