From Laide Raheem, Abeokuta

Scores of residents of Ajiregun and 11 surrounding villages in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State, on Monday, stormed the palace of the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, to protest the terror unleashed on their communities by hoodlums suspected to land grabbers.

The protesters who carried placards with inscriptions decrying the violent invasion by the land grabber allegedly led by one Kamorudeen Lamina otherwise known as ‘Sir K Oluwo’, urged the monarch and Governor Dapo Abiodun to urgently intervene and save them from the siege.

Speaking on behalf of the communities, Mrs Adesanya Omotayo, explained that the notorious land grabber orchestrated a widespread land grabbing, intimidation, and violent attacks on landowners.

“I represent Ajiregun and about 12 villages. We are suffering. This man has been disturbing landowners, especially elderly people, since last year. He has mounted boys to harass, beat, and even kill people,” she stated.

She claimed that several residents are currently receiving medical treatment following attacks linked to the ongoing land grabbing activities.

“We have victims in the hospital right now because of this issue. Almost all the land which is over 40,000 acres has been violently grabbed. People cannot return to their villages or farms. We live in fear,” Mrs Adesanya added.

She further revealed that even organized groups such as the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and individuals who legally purchased land in the communities have been deprived of their land.

“There is a representative of NUT here, Mr. Biodun Oriyomi. They bought land, but this same man has illegally taken it over. Nobody can access their land or farms anymore,” she added.

Also speaking, Oladipupo Orunmoku, claimed that he was allegedly attacked and shot by the armed thugs who swooped on him while working on his family farm in October, 2025.

“Some of his boys came to our land. They were about 60 and fully armed. They shot me, but God saved my life,” Orunmoku said.

The protesters,. however, appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun,.the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Oludaisi Elemide and the Akarigbo of Remo land Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi to come to their rescue.

Addressing the protesters at Akarigbo’s Palace, the Lisa of Ofin, Chief Adeyemi Salami, acknowledged the growing threat of land grabbing across the region.

“Land grabbing is becoming a serious problem everywhere. People cannot go to their farms or markets. If farming is their livelihood, how can they survive? The palace is not folding its arms; we are taking action, even up to the House of Assembly,” Chief Salami said.

He added that formal complaints and relevant documents are being compiled to be forwarded to the state government for decisive action.

“We are putting this papers together and everything is going before the governor, so the power to execute law on land grabbers rest on the governor, we cannot do it from here alone . The complaint will be forwarded to the governor”, he said.
