A lying-in-state ceremony has been scheduled for Monday, August 24, 2026, in honour of late veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, in his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State.

The ceremony will hold at 11:00 a.m. at the Pavilion in Ilaro, according to veteran actor Jide Kosoko, who announced Ogogo’s death on Sunday.

Kosoko said the remains of the 66-year-old actor would be taken to Ilaro on Sunday ahead of the ceremony.

“With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of ALHAJI TAIWO HASSAN, popularly known as OGOGO, who passed away at 3:00 p.m. today Sunday, 23rd August 2026. At 66 years,” Kosoko stated.

He added that the lying-in-state would take place the following day at the Pavilion in the Ogun State town.

The announcement has sparked tributes across the Yoruba film industry, with colleagues and fans mourning the loss of one of the prominent figures in Yoruba-language cinema.

Ogogo enjoyed a career spanning more than four decades and featured in over 300 films, becoming one of the most recognisable faces in the Nigerian film industry.

Kosoko, in his announcement, prayed for the repose of Ogogo’s soul and asked for strength for his family, friends, colleagues and other loved ones.
