Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has approved the sum of N137.5 million as transport allowance for corps members posted to the state.
Governor Oborevwori made the announcement on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, during the closing ceremony of the orientation exercise held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Issele-Uku, in Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state.
The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Kingsley, congratulated the corps members on their successful completion of the three-week orientation programme, while describing their conduct throughout the training exercise as “exemplary”.
Oborevwori said the orientation course was designed not only to prepare corps members for national service but also to instil values of discipline, patriotism, teamwork, leadership and civic responsibility.
He called on corps members to uphold integrity, professionalism and diligence as they proceed to their various places of primary assignment across the country.
“As you proceed to your various places of primary assignment, I urge you to uphold the highest standards of integrity, diligence, discipline and patriotism,” the governor said.
He also urged corps members to make meaningful contributions in their host communities, whether serving in schools, healthcare facilities, government institutions, rural communities or private organisations.
He further advised corps members to embrace the cultural diversity of their host communities and promote peaceful coexistence and national unity through their interactions and service.

He added that the Delta State Government would continue to support the National Youth Service Corps scheme, noting that his administration remained committed to ensuring a safe, productive and rewarding service year for all serving corps members in the state.
“In further demonstration of our administration’s commitment to youth empowerment and support for young men and women serving in our state, I am pleased to announce the approval of a transport allowance of fifty thousand naira for the 2,750 corps members passing out of the orientation camp today,” he stated.
The government would continue to create an enabling environment for corps members to thrive and contribute meaningfully to the development of communities and institutions in Delta State.
The ceremony, he said, goes beyond mere formality, as it represents a significant transition — from training to active service, from preparation to performance, and from aspiration to meaningful contribution in the task of nation-building.
The state coordinator, Mr John Vandi Kwaghe, commended corps members for the discipline, resilience and maturity they demonstrated throughout the orientation exercise.
He thanked the state governor for the generous donation of 10 cows and 200 bags of rice towards the welfare of the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II corps members deployed to Delta State.
He said the remarkable gesture was unprecedented in the history of the NYSC in Delta State, along with many other kind gestures by the governor.
He, however, appealed for the fulfilment of the pronouncement made during the swearing-in ceremony on April 24, 2026, including the re-roofing and renovation of the leaking multi-purpose hall; provision of 1,000 mattresses and double bunk beds for the newly constructed 720-bed-capacity hostel; sinking of an additional industrial borehole to address the challenge of inadequate water supply; reconstruction of the damaged pavilion, which hosts major camp events; provision of a 114KVA generator to power the camp; and provision of one utility vehicle for the use of the state coordinator.
