Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano has commissioned 11 projects donated to Umuchukwu community in Orumba South Local Government Area by American-based Chief Medical Director of Las Vegas Pain Institute, Dr. Godwin Maduka.
Obiano called on citizens of the state to emulate the American-based doctor in bringing development projects home, to add value to lives and encourage government’s efforts.
The governor said his administration would continue to encourage wealthy citizens to bring their investments home by providing an enabling environment.
Notable among the projects were a 17-floor medical research centre, high court complex, judges quarters, Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) office building, magistrates’ court, classroom blocks, civic centre, among others.
He commended Maduka for heeding his administration’s clarion call to bring his wealth home, describing him as a man with uncommon love for his community.
Shortly after commissioning the ultra modern twin High Court complex and judges quarters for Orumba Judicial Division constructed in partnership with Anambra State Government, Maduka noted that the project was conceived because of the need to ensure that the people of Orumba North and South Local Government councils have quick access to justice instead of relying on Ekwulobia High Court in Aguata Local Government Area.
He said the necessary approvals from the Anambra State Judiciary and National Judicial Council were sought before the commencement of the project and expressed hope that as soon as the High Court commences activities, it will save the people from the area the hassles of paying lawyers high transport allowances and other fees for attending courts outside the town.
He noted that the project was modeled after the American International Court standard but was also built so that judges residing there do not have to envy those residing in Awka or Onitsha and can also perform their duties without any form of distraction going by the level of amenities and security provided in the place.
Maduka thanked Governor Obiano for creating enabling environment in terms of security that has encouraged people of his kind to reside in the state without fear.
He also praised the efforts of other well meaning citizens of Anambra in various communities who aid government’s efforts by developing their areas.
“I’m not a politician but I’ve made a pact with God that I will assist both my people and the government in any way possible that life can be made better. This is done out of my meager resources so that we can bridge the gap between life in the Western countries and ours.”
The President General of the Umuchukwu Community, Mr Okechukwu Nwele said the determination of Dr Maduka to assist the Nigerian government and Anambra at large in developing the state was an indication that the society did not need crowd to bring changes that would affect the people’s life positively.
Mr Nwele stated that the event was culmination of the bold step to create an enabling environment to contain the magnitude of development envisaged in quick succession by the philanthropist.
He commended the partnership of security agencies including Nigeria Police and Civil Defence for their assistance to the community in the area of fostering peace and assisting in the creation of conducive environment for all these development to be actualized.
