A former governorship candidate in Edo State, Olumide Akpata, has disclosed that he and former presidential candidate Peter Obi received separate security warnings ahead of the recent attack on them and other political figures in the state.
Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television on Wednesday, Akpata said credible sources alerted both him and Obi that the venue of their engagement would soon come under attack by unknown persons.
“Peter Obi and I received information separately from reliable sources that the venue we were at would soon come under attack by unknown persons,” he said.

According to him, the incident, which occurred during a political gathering in Benin City, also involved former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, and chieftains of the African Democratic Congress.
Akpata dismissed claims that the violence was carried out by a faction within the ADC, describing such assertions as “ridiculous.”
“It is ridiculous to say that the violence was caused by some factions of the Adc.”
He further expressed concern over the state of political affairs in Edo, declaring that democracy is under attack in the state.
