Obaseki proceeds on vacation, mourns Ohiwerei’s wife

OBASEKI

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has proceeded on his annual vacation and has transmitted a letter to the House of Assembly, to transfer powers to his deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu.

   Shaibu will act as governor during the period while Obaseki is away.

A statement signed by the House Clerk, Alhaji Audu Yahaya Omogbai, said Speaker Kabiru Adjoto received a letter from the governor where he notified lawmakers of his annual vacation, beginning Sunday, March 24 to April 23.

Adjoto said: “The letter stated that the deputy governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, will act as the governor during the period. The parliament, hereby, extends her commendation to the governor for setting a democratic and constitutional landmark in the state; by temporarily transferring power to his deputy while away and ensuring that the House is duly carried along, which is in full compliance with section 190 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.”

Meanwhile, Obaseki, has commiserated with Dr. Felix Ohiwerei and his family, over the passing of his wife, Janet.

The governor, who expressed sadness over the news of Mrs. Ohiwerei’s passing, consoled Dr. Ohiwerei, and prayed that God grants him and his family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

“Mrs. Ohiwerei was a great woman, who stood for the finest ideals of motherhood. She was a great pillar in the family and worked hard to the benefit of her family, immediate environment and the society at large.

“She was a strong, dedicated Christian, who toiled tirelessly in the vineyard of the Lord to propagate the gospel. We will miss her guidance.”
