Obasa Games 2025: Champions emerge ahead of Football Finals

The 2025 Obasa Games in Lagos showcased a remarkable display of talent as fifty-four exceptional winners emerged from six fiercely contested sports—Chess, Scrabble, Table Tennis, Ayo Olopon, Boxing, and Athletics.

These young athletes demonstrated unparalleled zeal and the unwavering spirit of sportsmanship, collectively earning a substantial prize pool of ₦6 million designated for the top three medalists in each sport.

Athletes from Educational District 1 clearly dominated the events, with numerous competitors securing podium finishes. In a thrilling chess competition, 15-year-old Adu Samuel from Asa Community High School claimed the gold medal, while the silver went to Adeeiga David, a 14-year-old from Multi Grace College. The bronze medal was rightfully awarded to Patrick Prais of ABS College from Educational District 4.

Okedairo Tomisin of Multi Grace College made a significant impact by winning gold in the Scrabble event. The silver medal was claimed by Ajetunmobi Joel from Lagos City Senior High School (Educational District 4), and Aneef Kelani from Heritage Global Academy (Educational District 2) secured the bronze.

The athletics competition was nothing short of exhilarating. Shodipo Eniola and Ganiu Olamilekan decisively claimed the titles of queen and king of the tracks in the Under 18 male and female categories. In the fiercely contested Under 15 division, John Bright and Okonkwo Nnwoma both earned gold medals.

Kareem Yusuf from Power Boxing Club (Educational District 5) emerged as the indomitable champion in the Under 18 male boxing category, while Nimotallahi Ajayi of Aso Rock Boxing Club rightfully earned the title of queen of the ring.

In a groundbreaking debut, Ayo Olopon witnessed Kasali Adams claim the gold medal, with Majaro Abideen from Dungunya Senior Grammar School (Educational District 2) taking silver and Junaid Zainab of Jaiye Ojokoro Senior College securing bronze.

In Table Tennis, Aina Sultan of Kota Junior Secondary School asserted his dominance in the Under 15 boys’ category, followed closely by Adeleke Fikayo from Government College, Eric Moore, and Opeoluwa Isaac from Gbaja Boys Junior High School, who secured silver and bronze, respectively. Omitaomu Samson from Cardos Junior High School tied for third.

In the Under 15 girls’ category, Kuyoro Mary of Army Children Senior High School, Ikeja, decisively claimed gold, while Ogidiolu Olasubomi of Multi Grace College and Amoo Fathia from Eko Akete Grammar School, Lagos Island captured silver and bronze, respectively. Sulaimonan Rukayat from Orile Agege Community Junior High School also shared third place.

For the Under 18 boys and girls, Ekundayo Ishola from Nightingale Academy, Merian, and Afolabo Aisha of State Senior High School, Oyewole Agege, emerged as champions. Armoire Quam of Birch Freeman Senior High School, Mushin, and Olorunkoya Aisha from Odo Obara Senior High School, Epe took silver, while Adelanwa Hameed of Siddys Sydney School, Agege, and Jimoh Saidat from Iponri Senior High School, Surulere earned bronze. The duo of Savage Samod from Eko Akete Grammar School, Lagos Island, and Olorunwa Sarah shared third place.

Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Moshood Ajibola, expressed his enthusiasm: “As we approach the conclusion of Obasa Games 2025, it’s clear that this has been a remarkable event for everyone, especially the children competing in all sports. The future of sports in Nigeria is undeniably bright, fueled by the extraordinary talents we’ve discovered in athletics, boxing, chess, scrabble, table tennis, and Ayo Olopon. With the finals of six sports now behind us, our focus shifts to the highly anticipated football knockout rounds and finals, scheduled for December 13, 2025.”
