Where Nigeria stands: As of the last official release, the D’Tigers sit 53rd in the world and 8th in Africa — behind continental pace-setters South Sudan, Cote d’Ivoire, Angola, Tunisia and Egypt.
That ranking predates Nigeria’s most recent qualifying window, which delivered mixed fortunes in Radès, Tunisia: a 78-62 opening loss to Cameroon, a narrow 82-79 defeat to South Sudan, then a statement 100-84 win over Cape Verde. The results leave David Fizdale’s side at 5-4 overall in Group E, with three games left to decide whether Nigeria returns to the World Cup stage for the first time since 2019.
