Leading fashion and apparel brand, Nzapi, has entered into a formal partnership with the Centre for Memories (Ncheta Ndigbo), a foremost institution dedicated to documenting and safeguarding the cultural heritage of Ndi Igbo.
The partnership was announced at a ceremony attended by cultural enthusiasts, fashion stakeholders and members of the press in Enugu, and is expected to merge historical scholarship with contemporary fashion to tell the Igbo story in new and engaging ways.
Director of the Centre for Memories, Iheanyi Igboko, described the collaboration as a historic step towards ensuring that the memories, struggles and triumphs of the Igbo people are not lost to time.
“While the Centre has enjoyed a warm and productive relationship with Nzapi over time, today marks a significant milestone as we formalise this collaboration.”
According to him, the partnership is designed to amplify the stories, archived research and untold histories preserved by the Centre and bring them to wider audiences through creative platforms.
Displaying the specially designed cap and T-shirts produced by Nzapi for the Centre, Igboko said the apparel symbolised more than fashion.
“These items stand as a powerful testament to our united commitment to scaling and sharing the stories, values and legacy of Ndi Igbo — for yesterday, today and tomorrow.
“This partnership represents more than collaboration; it is a shared resolve to preserve our heritage, empower current and future generations and ensure the excellence and integrity of Igbo history continue to inspire.”
Head of Strategy and Implementation at Nzapi Apparel, Chiamaka Onwuagba, said the partnership was driven by the desire to prevent Igbo history from remaining confined to museums and textbooks.
“The purpose of this collaboration is to ensure that the stories of our ancestors, our struggles and our triumphs do not remain confined to the pages of history books and the walls of museums.”
She explained that Nzapi was aligning its creative strength with the Centre’s historical depth so that cultural identity could be worn with pride.
“We are aligning Nzapi’s creative prowess with the Centre’s historical depth to ensure that our cultural identity is something we can see and wear every day with pride.” Onwuagba added that the partnership would authenticate Igbo narratives and amplify the Centre’s work, benefiting Igbo people at home and in the diaspora.
