The Anambra State governorship aspirant on the platform of Labour Party, John Chuma Nwosu, has faulted the decision of Governor Chukwuma Soludo to launch full onslaught against criminal elements through Operation Udo Ga Achi in January 2025.

Nwosu who spoke in a statement in Awka on Boxing Day in reaction to the reported kidnapping of a serving legislator in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Azuka Justice on Christmas eve, said Governor Soludo has failed in its statutory responsibility to protect the citizens and residents of Anambra.

Reflecting on the precarious security situation in the state presently which he said made many Anambra citizens outside the state not to return home for the Christmas festivities, Nwosu also lamented that the safety and whereabouts of the retired Archbishop , Province on the Niger/ Anglican Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Godwin Okpala is still yet to be ascertained weeks after his abduction by dare devil gunmen in Anambra.
He said all hands must be on deck to revere the situation hence the need for an urgent change in the state.

Hear him : “Since declaring my interest to run for the Anambra Governorship in 2025, I have repeatedly flagged insecurity as the overarching challenge in the state.

“Unabating violence, rampant killings and kidnappings have since proven me right and pointed to the stark failure of Gov. Charles Soludo’s administration to meet its statutory responsibility to protect citizens of Anambra. Visitors, indigenes, non-indigenes returnees, Diasporans all know and assert that insecurity is the major bane in Anambra.

“Statistics indicate a drastic drop in the number of those returning to Anambra for the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year Festivities. Incidentally, for some inexplicable reasons, the state government said it had mapped out ameliorative measures for tackling insecurity in the state which it would put in place beginning in January 2025. This seems to be a case of putting the cart before the horse.

“Clearly, the Soludo administration has failed in articulating what ought to be priorities for Ndi Anambra. Such a faulty disposition is unacceptable on every count.

“It is most embarrassing that an eminent Anambra prelate is still missing and on Christmas Eve, an incumbent member of the Anambra State Assembly representing Onitsha North was kidnapped. Certainly, Anambra people can’t afford to continue supporting a governor who schedules security interventions as if he is scheduling a social appointment. State Security is a 24/7 project anchored on a firm commitment and allocation of the required resources, personnel, equipment and materials.

“The present Anambra State Government cannot be allowed to mortgage the security of the State and people, period. We cannot be on Exile from our Homeland. Change is needed. Be part of this needed and urgent Change. All hands on deck,” Nwosu said.
