Prominent statesman and former governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo, has been slated to chair the 15th Chief Emeka Anyaoku Distinguished Lecture Series on good governance, scheduled to hold in Owerri, Imo State, on April 9, 2026.
Organisers of the lecture said Nwobodo was selected based on his antecedents and notable track record in public service and governance.
The Anyaoku Lecture Series is a leading Nigerian public policy forum focused on governance, leadership, and national development. Widely described as an “Ideas Arena,” it serves as a platform for intellectual engagement and policy discourse.
The annual event is held in honour of Chief Emeka Anyaoku, a respected elder statesman and former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth.
Its core objective is to stimulate robust debate on good governance in Nigeria, bringing together politicians, academics, diplomats, and civil society actors. Themes of the lecture series typically revolve around democracy and constitutional reforms, leadership and accountability, national unity and restructuring, as well as economic and institutional development.

Usually organised by the Youth Affairs International Foundation (YAIF) and supported by state governments and other institutions, the lecture platform is designed to influence governance and policy direction in Nigeria.
Previous editions, held in cities such as Port Harcourt and Enugu, have attracted prominent national figures, including former heads of state and governors.
Discussions at the forum often highlight Nigeria’s diversity as a plural society and the need for a more balanced federal structure.
In a formal letter addressed to Senator Nwobodo, the Coordinator of the lecture series, Ambassador Johnson Ogbonna, expressed delight at inviting the former governor to serve as Chairman of the Occasion at the 15th edition of the lecture.
“Sir, your contributions to good governance resonate strongly with the aspirations of our generation. The entire executive of the Chief Emeka Anyaoku Lecture on Good Governance, the Board of the Youth Affairs International Foundation, and our honouree, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, have collectively agreed that you chair this year’s annual lecture,” Ogbonna stated.
