The Executive Director of the Rule of Law Accountability and Advocacy Centre, Mr Okechukwu Nwanguma, has called on the leadership of the Igbo apex socio-cultural and political organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo to take immediate action over the continued detention of Fredrick Nwajagu, who had threatened to invite the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to protect the investments of Igbo in Lagos against the background of an alleged threat by some indigenes of Lagos State to consficate the properties and businesses of Ndigbo in Lagos.

He noted that those who made the threats to which the detained Nwajagu had responded to were never arrested. Nwajagu, who is the Eze Ndigbo of Ajao Estate, in Isolo Local Council Development Area in Lagos is standing trial on a nine-count charge bordering on an alleged attempt to commit acts of terrorism, financing terrorism, participating in terrorism and meeting to support a proscribed entity.

In a statement, the human rights activist called on Ohanaeze Ndigbo to intervene and to engage with the Lagos State government to drop the charges against Fredrick Nwajagu, saying: “I believe that the voice of Ohanaeze can be a powerful instrument in ensuring fairness and representation for all members of the Igbo community.”
