A 55-year-old chieftain of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Shamsudeen Oladiti, popularly known as “Shamelon,” has been arraigned before the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, over the alleged killing of a dispatch rider, Ramon Imam.
Oladiti was arraigned on a three-count charge bordering on involuntary manslaughter, conspiracy and attempted murder, filed against him by the Lagos State Government.
The prosecution counsel, Jubril Kareem, told the court that the offences were allegedly committed between August 27 and September 17, 2025.
Kareem said the defendant and others still at large allegedly conspired on September 17, 2025, at about 10 a.m. at Lewis Street, Lagos Island, to commit the offences.
The prosecutor further alleged that Oladiti, at about 3 p.m. on the same day, caused the death of Imam by beating him with fist blows and repeatedly striking him on the head and face.
He also alleged that on August 27, 2025, at about 10 a.m., the defendant attempted to murder one Samuel Omale by assaulting him and inflicting severe injuries at the same location.
According to the prosecution, the offences contravened Sections 224, 411 and 230 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Following the plea, defence counsel, Olanrewaju Ajanaku, informed the court that he had filed a bail application dated April 27, 2026.
Ajanaku said the application had been served on the prosecution.
“We humbly place before the court our application for bail. Same has been served and my learned friend has confirmed receipt,” he said.
In response, Kareem confirmed receipt of the application and said the prosecution had no objection.
He, however, noted that the defence was seeking an order directing the correctional centre to confirm the defendant’s medical status.
Ajanaku urged the court to grant the request.
In a short ruling, Justice Olawale Alebiosu granted the application and directed the Controller of Corrections at Kirikiri to confirm the medical status of the defendant at the Lagos State Government hospital.
The court had earlier rejected the defendant’s bail application due to some errors.
The case was adjourned till June 15, 2026, for trial.
