Journalists in Oyo State are set to upgrade their skills with a series of Artificial Intelligence (AI) training sessions, scheduled to kick off by mid-January 2026.

The initiative, announced by the newly inaugurated Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, Akeem Abas, aims to equip media professionals with modern digital skills and boost newsroom productivity.

Speaking on New Frontier Television, Abas revealed that the training would cover AI tools for content creation, data analysis, fact-checking, multimedia enhancement, and audience engagement.

“Acquiring such skills has become necessary as journalism continues to evolve globally,” he said.

The training, facilitated by technology experts, will run in batches to ensure all journalists in the state benefit.

Abas emphasised that the Oyo NUJ leadership is committed to prioritising professional development, welfare, and inclusiveness among journalists.

He stated that his regime would embrace innovative ideas to elevate standards and strengthen credibility within the media space.

“More capacity-building programmes will be introduced in the coming months,” Abas assured.

He was optimistic that the AI training would set the tone for a transformative year for journalists in Oyo State.
