The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, has honoured the Chairman of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government, Prince Lanre Sanusi, with the Media Games Ambassador award in recognition of his contributions to grassroots development and responsive governance.
The presentation took place at the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Secretariat in Lagos and was attended by members of the NUJ Lagos State Executive Council and the Media Games Committee, led by its Chairman, Mr. Adeleye Ajayi.
Presenting the award, Ajayi described Prince Sanusi as a visionary leader whose administration has demonstrated that effective local government leadership can bring tangible improvements to the lives of citizens.
He said the council decided to honour the local government chairman for his commitment to infrastructure renewal, youth empowerment, improved healthcare, education and community development.
According to Ajayi, Sanusi’s administration has undertaken several projects aimed at improving road infrastructure, drainage systems, environmental sanitation, public safety and the beautification of communities across Amuwo-Odofin.
“His administration has continued to demonstrate that purposeful leadership at the local government level can bring meaningful transformation to the lives of the people.” Ajayi also commended the chairman’s investment in human capital development through vocational training, skills acquisition programmes, youth and women empowerment initiatives and support for small businesses.
He noted that the administration has equally prioritised healthcare and education by supporting schools and improving healthcare services, adding that the council’s achievements have continued to earn the admiration of residents and stakeholders.
Prince Sanusi expressed appreciation to the NUJ for recognising his administration’s efforts, describing the award as an encouragement to do more.
“My heart is full of gratitude for this recognition of what we have been able to do for our community. It is one thing to work diligently and another for people to recognise and appreciate those efforts.”

The council chairman attributed the achievements recorded within his first year in office to the collective efforts of members of his administration, legislators, management staff and other stakeholders.
He disclosed that the local government had completed at least 11 major roads within 11 months while several other infrastructure projects are ongoing across the council area.
“I am not interested in whose responsibility it is to fix a road, whether it belongs to the state or the Federal Government. What matters is that the roads are fixed so our people can enjoy the basic amenities they deserve.”
Sanusi also revealed that the council had renovated its Legislative Chamber, expanded vocational skills acquisition programmes, upgraded healthcare facilities and increased investment in sports development as part of efforts to engage young people positively.
He commended President Bola Tinubu for championing local government autonomy, saying the policy has enhanced the capacity of local councils to execute development projects and improve service delivery.
The chairman assured residents that every public fund allocated to the council would be prudently managed and accounted for, expressing confidence that ongoing projects would restore Amuwo-Odofin to its position as one of Lagos State’s leading local government areas.
On the forthcoming 2026 NUJ Media Games, the union expressed optimism about strengthening its partnership with the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government under Sanusi’s leadership.
The 2026 NUJ Media Games is scheduled to hold from October 5 to October 10 at the Agege Stadium in Lagos.
The Council said it would continue to recognise public office holders whose leadership and commitment to service delivery have positively impacted their communities and contributed to the development of Lagos State.
