Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) will on Saturday award degrees to over 25,000 students – including an impressive 83 first-class honours recipients – during its 8th Combined Convocation Ceremony, intertwined with the institution’s 25th anniversary festivities.
It would also confer honorary degrees on distinguished personalities, including Samia Suluhu Hassan,Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan, business magnate and founder BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, and philanthropist Ahmed Adamu, in recognition of their contributions to development and society.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sa’adatu Liman made this disclosure at a press briefing on the university’s main campus, spotlighting graduates from its 11 faculties that offer nearly 83 undergraduate and 104 postgraduate programmes.
She framed the event as a testament to NSUK’s evolution since its 2002 founding, marked by strides in leadership, scholarship, and facilities – all fueled by visionary founders and dedicated administrations.

Liman hailed founding father Abdullahi Adamu for laying the groundwork, while crediting ex-governors Aliyu Akwe Doma and Tanko Al-Makura, alongside current Governor Abdullahi Sule, for boosting educational progress. Traditional leaders like Shehu Chindo Yamusa III of the Keffi Emirate also earned praise for their enduring support.
Governance trailblazers, from former Pro-Chancellors such as Matthew Kukah, the late Adamu Baikie, and Attahiru Jega, to past Vice-Chancellors including Profs. Shamsudeen Amali, Mainoma Mohammed, and Suleiman Bala Mohammed, were lauded for their foundational legacies.
In academic standings, NSUK Liman stated, climbed to 36th in Sub-Saharan Africa and 8th nationally per the 2024 Times Higher Education rankings, securing second place among state universities; it also garnered 2025 Sustainable Development Goals acclaim for advancing equitable education.
Liman wrapped up by thanking staff, students, partners, and stakeholders for propelling NSUK’s quarter-century journey of impact.
Meanwhile Professor Patrick Lumumba, a renowned Kenyan lawyer, academic, and Pan-Africanist, is scheduled to deliver the keynote convocation lecture at Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) on Friday.
NSUK’s 8th Combined Convocation features two lectures: Lumumba’s address titled “University’s WW2 Leadership of Africa Renaissance: Reimagining Knowledge for Development in the 21st Century,” alongside Dr. Umar Bindir’s Silver Jubilee Lecture on knowledge-to-wealth pathways.
