The Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Dr Olusola Odumosu, has warned vandals who specialise in vandalising manholes and crash barriers to steer clear of those critical national assets.

In a statement, Odumosu said that the crash barriers are not just for the beautification of the city but for the protection of lives of road users across the city centre.

He said that the Corps will do everything possible to ensure their protection.

The FCT Commandant said that as the lead agency tasked with the responsibility of protecting Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) in the FCT, his personnel on 24-hour patrol are intensifying their strategies to ensure the protection of the crash barriers and other national assets and infrastructure like manhole covers, streetlight poles, armoured cables, bridge reinforcement aluminium, telecommunications equipment, water pipes, and electrical cables, amongst others.

The FCT boss also warned the leadership of the pantaker markets across the FCT to ensure that none of those items are found or sold in their markets, otherwise they stand the risk of being shut down completely.

He charged those overseeing the markets to continue to adhere strictly to approved guidelines handed over to them by the FCT Security Council during the last profiling of the markets, stating that monitoring and regulation of the markets is still enforced.

The Commandant advised all heads of pantaker markets to warn their members not to violate laid-down rules, else they should be ready to face the sanctions.

Odumosu reiterated that his men are determined to flush out vandals from the city centre through renewed intensified surveillance and 24-hour patrol.

He called on residents of the FCT to report anyone found lurking around the infrastructure or seen vandalising national infrastructure to any security outfit for prompt action.
