Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended five suspects allegedly caught with adulterated petroleum products.

The suspects were arrested on Sunday in the Igbokoda waterways of Ondo State.

The Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Aidamenbor Daniel, said the operation was carried out by a combined team of the NSCDC, Nigerian Army, and Amotekun Corps.

Mr Daniel gave the names of the suspects as Orofin Olorunjuwon, Enigbewo Sunday, Ayeyiwa Ilumaro, Owoyemi Ete and Okorisa Noah.

He disclosed that the suspects were arrested with two large wooden boats filled with about 250,000 litres of adulterated petroleum products, three outboard boat engines, and two pumping machines.

He said the joint task force set the illegally acquired petroleum product ablaze at sea while the suspects and other exhibits are in custody for prosecution.

He assured the public that joint operations and routine patrols of the waterways will continue to rid Ondo State of economic saboteurs. The arrested suspects will be prosecuted according to the extant laws to serve as a deterrent to other criminal elements.
