Chairman House Committee on Land Transportation, Hon. Blessing Onyeche Onuh has called on management of Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC to increase percentage of women recruited and trained as Locomotive/Crane drivers and technicians.

She gave management the challenge when enquiries during an oversight visit by members of House Committee on Land Transport to Running Shed (workshop) Ebute-Metta Junction recently showed that there was no single female locomotive engine driver in the entire railway system.

She acknowledged presence of few female technicians seen at the Running Shed (Lagos workshop) during the visit but that more females should be encouraged to seek employment into service of the corporation especially as Locomotive engine and crane drivers.

However, one of the female technicians seen at the Lagos workshop expressed satisfaction with the job description, welfare and environment provided by management.

Managing director of the corporation Engr. Fidet Okhiria said that there is only one female crane driver out of the male drivers handling 4 Cranes in the corporation’s fleet.
